Introduction to Variant Detection and Analysis
Mutations, the fuel of evolution, are first manifested as rare DNA changes within a population of cells. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies have revolutionized the study of genomic variation between species and individual organisms.
Variant detection and analysis refers to the sequencing and difference analysis of the genome of an individual or population of a species through high-throughput sequencing technology, so as to obtain a large amount of genetic variation information, such as single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), insertion and deletion (InDel), structural variation (SV), copy number variation CNV and so on. Mutation detection can be used to develop molecular markers and establish genetic polymorphism database, which lays a data foundation for revealing evolutionary relationships and mining functional genes.
